With over four decades of clinical experience, Dr V Jayanthi is a renowned name in the field of Hepatology & Gastroenterology in the country. Besides teaching young medical students and treating patients as Prof of Hepatology & HOD Department of Hepatology at SRMC she is well known for her keen interest in research & publications

Considering her illustrious career, she interestingly also holds a few firsts to her name too.

She is the first woman Prof of Hepatology to Head the Dept of Hepatology and Liver Transplant in India and at SRMC which is the 6th center recognized for DM Hepatology training in India.  She was also the first woman in public sector at Stanley Medical College Hospital to start the Liver transplant Program way back in 2001 and succeeded in performing Liver transplants for poor patients at Stanley with Prof Surendran as the Liver Transplant Surgeon. 

Felicitated with many awards & recognitions, Dr Jayanthi is a revered expert in hepatology, to her credit are many books, review articles, case reports & presentations, chapters in textbooks & monographs, besides over 200 publications. She has led hepatology focused professional organizations that aim to develop this super specialized branch of gastro science in the country.

She serves on the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Gastroenterology and is also a Reviewer for Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology. She is the Regional Coordinator of INASL for TN and Puducherry and a Core Member of Indian Society of Gastroenterology:  IBS, IBD, GERD, Chronic pancreatitis, H pylori management, GERD management
